pre-note: i barely talk about the fic here LOL... this is more to log my obsession with 1424 because Wow They're Really Good Together and more people need to realize that

i think i started to like them more out of their visual chemistry, like, vv pics and that moon group concept photo... they just really do look sooo good together. #iship. sohyun who is the pioneer of masculinity (appearance-wise) in tripleS and jiyeon whose face just screams pretty woman! what's there not to like? at some point i called them my lovely #butchfemme combo

but also not quite? i kind of never thought about it until this jiyubin conversation and it was, like, Wowww.... jiyeon herself talking about "i'm not really that feminine" (or it could be a response to yubin's "most [...] in the world" but whatever i digress) and then the famed "unnie is really... woman..." gong yubin i rlly do love you so bad. okay going off topic. but it's intriguing to explore the topic of femininity with jiyeon: it brought to mind the wavtwt 'futch or femme' poll in january that sparked quite a lot of discourse. now i'm not saying that my opinion is better than others. but also i know things that you all don't. #JOKE i think most prominently i remember the poll creator fighting for futch!jiyeon and everyone was like Noooo!!! That's ballerina girl she can't be anything but femme!!! [flash forward: a frame of me pointing at Nakamura Kazuha.] i just don't think ballet is as strictly feminine as you guys think... hedging on discourse that's more serious than a yuri post should call upon so i'm going to step back a little.... anyways. jiyeon's masc/femme thing is really not all black and white. i can't say i have much claim over the topic because i don't have that firm of a grasp on jiyeon's character but also one side proclaiming she's femme because she does ballet and the other she's futch because look at her in vv [wise man voice] let's peer a little deeper

me personally, (1/7382) no but seriously i don't think i can fit her into a little category. she really is so nuanced in that sense: on one hand you have the famously presumed-feminine ballerina persona and those pretty-girl visuals, on the other: lynn answering jiyeon when asked "who would you choose to be your boyfriend" then when asked to elaborate she spends so long thinking about how to answer like What Does This Imply, also her short vs long hair discussion (TLDR: she doesn't want people to cut their hair because of her + she likes both but after vv she likes the reaction of seeing her w long hair again) and these are really just human-made categories and arbitrary terms and i should really stop thinking so deep. i say as i continue to think deeper. so goodnight let's talk about 14

then sohyun who everyone takes one look at and proclaims is masculine. honestly i can't do anything but agree. she really leans into it until at some point i'm thinking is this genuinely her or has she just expertly woven her on-screen self until we can't tell the difference? [paranoia] but sohyun is really just. That genuine, i think. she's, like, wow, a real perfect boyfriend. she reads literature, she produces music, she buys her members gifts and lets them throw her around like a puppy sometimes - re: "i'll just go with [the members]". she writes songs inspired by her members. can you believe it?? this woman is real... i really don't have much to go on about because i think she's so legit. if you get what i mean. i kind of get the feeling that she doesn't care much about being masc/fem or handsome/pretty. her choices more depend on "whatever looks good" like this post talking about hair choices + these !super significant messages about vv concept, i don't think i can summarize it or i'll be quoting the whole thing but I find "no matter how I look it's still me, I want to show that I can be anything" soooo interesting... "doing it doesn't make me a guy"...
 

other interesting things:

• jiyeon: "pepero from a handsome person" + multiple times mentioning sohyun is both handsome and pretty
• that kind of revolutionary 41424 live (this clip in particular, 4: "the reason why she's handsome is only possible because she's pretty" ? chaeyeon what does this mean)
• sohyun on fromm: "i'm not your girlfriend i'm your lover"
• this post!!! "I used to think I look pretty / now I think I look handsome" (after cutting her hair short) T T.  metronome mention?

they complement each other so well...

• sohyun more often than not giving in to her members because, she just, loves like that,, and then jiyeon who is really so weird and a literal menace. but she's sweet. this intriguing combination.
• there's also: jiyeon's accidental apathy/T-ness (that 1724 moment on VV variety show + "emotional claims aren't convincing") met with sohyun's implicit care (badge game in Badge Wars 3 + i would epigraph this wonderful 414 fic, oomf got that characterization down to the bone)
• shared devotion (sohyun practically being a modhaus founder, jiyeon's nine year long ballet studies + her painful earnestness)
• of course as for every 14 pairing, to consider sohyun as artistic inspiration re: jiyeon's "i get to [...] watch sohyun unnie's artistic moments up close" also everyone needs to watch that recent super cute 142224 live.... amazing content with regards to their outlooks on moon and art
• also himejoshi hivemind: sohyun calling jiyeon pretty ever so often (read: that clip of VV haus) jiyeon is her ideal type... her ideal type: "someone who smiles and looks good with long hair, and someone she can communicate well with. also maybe who likes art?” what are we talking about?

other vague moments with no real correlation i just think about them:

• the whole dojoon thing. what even was happening. this set of jiyeon messages that i can't even describe ? the concept of 1424 yaoi
• sohyun's bias in le sserafim being Kazuha. like, real, and also, there seems to be someone similar ? in your own group?
• the concept of stage names that always begs to be brought up... there's not much of a dissonance for jiyeon than, say, seoah. maybe something to do with age here, for jiyeon i get more of an unbothered feel? 'it is what it is' or something like that, her outlook on the world is intriguing. but may i bring to attention: "it's not ji seoyeon / it's not jiyeon either" huh ? does she see them two different entities? if i ever write something 124 i Will definitely talk about this. Not Right Now.

okay, finally, actual fic notes

• i first started writing this with "someday or another, sohyun used to think, jiyeon is going to kill her..." like, honestly, I probably intended for this to be more haunting (?) but the canon compliant pushed through i Guess. leaning into the (admittedly small) predator/prey aspect of their character mashup (jiyeon --> forward, sohyun --> easygoing, re: that one moon clip where sohyun immediately backs away when jiyeon approaches her) I had more expressing this aspect but I realized it really isn't that big. jiyeon's forward but she's also sweet, sohyun's easy but she stands her ground - so I trivialized? it into more of a 'jiyeon leads / sohyun follows' thing instead
• the vv concept photo mentioned
• naky's fromm message about sohyun & nien
• when sohyun met jiyeon, her first thought: jiyeon is really pretty
• fic itself, i found the title & the most inspiration in atelic's let the sun beat suchhh a good piece... I could say a lot but i'm not here to rant about fics, maybe some other day
